About Ninfa’s on Navigation

The restaurant that started Houston’s Tex-Mex revolution. In 1973, Ninfa Laurenzo opened a tiny 10-table taqueria on Navigation Boulevard, introducing hand-rolled flour tortillas and sizzling beef fajitas to the American public. What began as a family operation quickly became a Houston institution, spawning multiple locations and forever changing the city’s culinary landscape. The restaurant changed ownership and is no longer operated by the Laurenzo family. The Laurenzo family continues the Tex-Mex tradition through El Tiempo Cantina, founded by Ninfa’s son. Regardless of ownership, Ninfa’s place in Houston culinary history — and its connection to the STHS community — is undeniable.
