About Arandas Bakery — Beechnut

The Arandas Bakery chain was founded in June 1993 by José Camarena and his wife Silvia on Airline Dr. A year later, in July 1994, José invited his uncle Jesús Hernandez to relocate from Beverly Hills to open Arandas Bakery’s second location in southwest Houston on Beechnut Street. Jesús and wife Maria Elena still own and operate the Beechnut bakery with their sons Ricky ’01 and Danny ’08, both STHS alumni who worked the counter, ovens, and trays of pan dulce throughout their St. Thomas years. Named for the family’s hometown in the Jalisco highlands, the bakery serves traditional Mexican pan dulce, empanadas, orejas, tres leches cakes, tamales, tortillas, and custom celebration cakes.
